Sharing

News aggregator feedly is continuously improving with new interesting features for the pro version. Only yesterday they introduced Custom Sharing, which allows you to send an article on Pinboard, post on your WordPress blog, publish via HootSuite, create a Google Bookmark plus much more.

Just on the 26th of August, feedly went pro for anyone who wanted to switch. Many did switch to pro, but, of course, other preferred to keep using feedly standard, the free version. Although this last one works great as it is, only yesterday feedly released a new feature that will go just on pro – and that is Custom Sharing.

Custom Sharing

This very recent update is part of the latest release of feedly desktop, which is now at version 17.3.639. The update is, as mentioned, about Custom Sharing, which basically allows you to combine feedly with numerous other services, in order to share or save articles. An example of feedly Custom Sharing is the following:

When you’d like to Create an event in Google Calendar just use:

http://www.google.com/calendar/event?action=TEMPLATE&text=${title}&details=${url}

Whether you’d like to Open full-page in Google Translate simply type:

http://translate.google.com/translate?u=${url}

If, as a further example, you’d like to Blog to WordPress use the following:

http://www..com/wp-admin/press-this.php?u=${url}&t=${title}&s=${source}&v=2

Functionalities are numerous, and the above are just an example. If you are on feedly pro already, and you’d like to get Custom Sharing up and running, simply go to Preferences > Sharing > Custom Sharing.

Feedly Pro

Feedly Pro costs US$5 per month, or US$45 per year. Revenue from sales goes toward scaling up feedly cloud infrastructure, improve customer support, and develop new features of course.

The fact you pay for a monthly fee assures the team behind feedly continues improving the platform with new functions. Using feedly Pro means having access to specific features earlier than free users, and give feedly community enough funds to keep going improving the platform. Lastly, if you’re not happy with the pro version after you pay, you can also get a refund.

The following represent some of the reasons you should upgrade to pro, in addition to the custom URLs we saw earlier. Naturally, the following are not available on feedly standard (free):

  • You can search within your feedly feeds.
  • You can save, with one click only, to any of your Evernote notebooks.
  • You can save, with one click only, to Pocket.
  • You get updates from small websites 30 minutes earlier.
  • You get involved in feedly community, for you may vote and suggest for the next upcoming features to be added to feedly.
  • Define custom sharing URLs (we have seen that above).
  • Get in front of the support line when you have issues with the platform.
  • You get to help the team to plan for the future.

So what do you think? Is this worth the money? Leave a feedback below, and share your thoughts with us.
